The Expendables Empty
PostSubject: The Expendables   The Expendables EmptyMon Jan 19, 2009 5:44 am

The Expendables is the ultimate badass tough-guy action flick, yet it doesn't even come out until next year. The story follows a team of mercenaries setting out to overthrow a South American dictator. But seriously, who gives a shit about the story? The Expendables stars Sly Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren as the merc team. Stallone is also writing and directing the film. The moment I heard about this movie, it moved to the top of my 'most-anticipated' list. This movie is really on track to becoming an action-classic already. Forest Whitaker and Mickey Rourke also star, and Robert Knepper (T-Bag from Prison Break), Ben Kingsley, and Sandra Bullock are in talks, as well.

geez. big cast for sure. an interesting choice for whittaker and rourke as well as well.

DOLPH and SLY providing the muscle. Jet Li providing the asian persuasion kung-foolery. Statham will be the iconic british thug i guess - stallone won't let him take the action hero limelight.

sounds like fun though. popcorn action at its best.

From what I hear, Statham came up with the idea for the film and approached both Stallone and Li about it. Stallone accepted right away and agreed to helm the writing and directing duties. Li was in final negotiations not too long after. They originally wanted Van Damme for Lundgren's part, but for some reason, he turned it down (real smart move, there). I'm hoping all the stars get equal ass-kicking opportunities.

After how utterly awesome Rambo turned out to be, I have complete and total faith that Sly will craft an action masterpiece. You certainly don't fuck around with a chance like this.

Arnold has been confirmed for this film. His exact role has not been announced but I'm sure it will be something smaller. Either way, it's going to be awesome just to have him in the movie.

Yeah I heard that, too. But I assumed that was just a rumor since that doesn't really fit into the context of the movie.

just watched the cheap ass trailer - which i think now has been removed from most places (copyright infringement), i think it's still up somewhere though (no link). it was a really badly edited trailer but the movie looks funny as hell. it's obviously not taking itself too seriously and just trying to be fun ensemble action..

I think the trailer looked cheaper than it actually was due to the horrible camera-phone quality. That and the fact that it's only a teaser. As far as I know, the movie isn't even finished filming yet. I did like the trailer though. Can't fucking wait for this movie. I'm pissed it got pushed back to August.
