How long is this episode?

Well you should play Episode 1 first. The episodes are a direct continuation of HL2. Episode 1 should take you between 2 to 3 and a half hours to finish, as it's basically just you and Alyx escaping City 17 before it blows up, and Episode 2 should take around 5 to 6 hours.

Ep. 2 is easily the best part of the series, though. The final battle alone is epic as hell, and the game has a very powerful cliffhanger ending.

hmm i missed out on these episodes i think. i just played the umm hl2 first when it came out. these are like expansion packs ur talking about?

Yeah, basically. Ep. 1 picks up right where HL2 left off, and Ep. 2 picks up right after Ep. 1. The Orange Box (which has all three HL2 games) is super cheap these days. The episodes are an essential part of the experience and I would strongly recommend playing them.

I would shit bricks if Episode 3 was even announced this year, man. Episode 2 came out in October of 2007 and there still hasn't been a single word from Valve on its supposed development. It has become something of a running joke among the gaming industry, like Duke Nukem Forever, but to a much, much lesser extent. You're lucky that you didn't discover Half-Life 2 until now, because the wait will probably be much shorter for you. Just imagine how tormenting it's been for people like me who played Ep. 2 when it came out 3 and a half years ago.

Yesterday I started with HL1, but I don"t like it...I mean its nice game, but it"s loooong time from 98 till today; I guess mainly because of the graphics.

I wanna try some simillar games to HL2 like Gears Of War (1&2), Halo 2......any suggestions?

Half-Life 1 is still an excellent game today, and is still one of the most revolutionary games of all time. Yeah, it looks ugly as hell compared to today's games, even with mods, but it's totally worth playing through just the same. The game gets better as it goes, so I definitely recommend finishing it. You won't regret it.

As for similar games to HL2, Gears of War and Halo are absolutely nothing like it, apart from the fact that you shoot dudes. In fact, I find that there aren't many games that are similar to it, but I would try Singularity and Metro 2033, as I definitely got Half-Life vibes playing those, and they are both very good games.
